Before I started golfing, I imagined golf attire was simple: khakis, a polo, maybe a v-neck sweater. Boring and basic. Surprise! The golf fashion world has exploded with options for every personality and style. The real question is: what's appropriate where?
Know Before You Go
Here's the golden rule: always check the dress code of wherever you're playing or practicing. Golf attire requirements vary widely by course.
Public courses and driving ranges are pretty relaxed. At LA's municipal courses, you'll see everything from classic golf looks to athleisure with sneakers. Jeans or leggings at the range? Sure. Untucked shirts? I've seen those too.
Private clubs? The details matter. At LA Country Club, the list of "no-nos" is long: no denim, no shorts or skorts, no leggings, no hoodies, no athletic tees, no joggers, no capris. Basically, think traditional country club attire.
Many private clubs follow LPGA guidelines: collared shirts (sleeveless collars and mock necks are okay), skirts, skorts, and shorts of appropriate length, and leggings only under skorts or shorts. Most clubs also prohibit metal-spiked shoes.
